Bloggity Blog

I was using Wordpress for my blogging software but I never really enjoyed using it. It's fast and clean but almost every update that's come out over the few years running it, broke something somewhere.

The last straw was the 3.1 (i think) update. After that I couldn't save or preview changes to any new or old posts.

In any case, I quite like to sprinkle my images around my blog posts but I found WP a bit of a pain because I use a custom written gallery and I'd have had to constantly fiddle with html and urls to lay the images out how I like. This usually means a ton of web pages open and lots of copying of image links... yawn.

With my own blog system, it has direct access to my images so it's really simple to plop them in a post.

Toys for the bored

I also added a little toy to play with. It'll probably kill my bandwidth so might get switched off shortly :) Basically, in any page where there are image thumbnails, you can click the semi-circle in the top middle and the background and colour scheme will change to the image you clicked on :) As I say, a daft toy but what the hell. I like it :) Here's some thumbnails to play around with: -

Apologies to whomever it was who tried to comment on the 15th of January. I rushed the release of my new site over the Christmas period and hadn't sufficiently tested the comment system. :(

It should be all fixed now.

November 2011, St Monans

November 2011, St Monans, Fife

One of my Flickr contacts posted a shot from here and I chimped! :) I thought the wall was a really interesting shape, so I added this place to the "must visits".

I was going to go a few weeks ago but a sudden attack of lazyitis had me bedridden. This weekend I decided that I was going. The tide would be in, the weather man made a prediction which, as it turned out was wrong but at least it sounded about perfect. So I set my alarm for 5am and headed out at about 5:30am.

I arrived nice an early and was able to start shooting before the big yella fella even hit the horizon.

I also bumped into a couple of Flickerites who had the same idea so that gave us all a chance to chat while shooting which was nice.

Anyhoo, below you'll see the shots in the order they where taken.

November 2011, Ferny Ness

I've been really lazy of late, struggling to find the energy for getting out with the camera. I'd meant to go to a different location in the morning but couldn't drag myself out of bed at 5am and this looked to be about as nice a spot as I could get to with little planning.

I packed some bites and headed out to Longniddry.

I spent an hour taking what amounted to 7 shots, of which there are four I thought worth posting. My favourite is probably the last shot of the night.

Unfortunately they all more or less suffer from dirty filters. They got splashed a bit and I didn't do a particularly good job cleaning them :(

Welcome to the new look Verdant Vista website.

It's been, literally, years in the making. Not just a pretty face, the back end (oo er) is a full monty content management system allowing me to easilly change the site content with the minium of fuss!

Even better, I can now keep my Flickr account and main website synchronised much easier using the integrated Flickr uploading.
